About KitchenCrew

Built from inside the kitchen.

KitchenCrew was created by a Wisconsin head chef and restaurant operations leader who has experienced the staffing gaps, last-minute call-offs, and limited earning paths that define culinary work.

Why KitchenCrew exists

The problem is obvious when you have lived it.

A single call-off can put an entire service at risk. At the same time, talented cooks and chefs often have no trusted place to find flexible restaurant work and private opportunities.

Jay Derouin has led restaurant kitchens and back-of-house teams, managed inventory and food cost, upheld sanitation standards, and worked through the operational pressure of high-volume service.

KitchenCrew grew from that firsthand experience: build one local network where restaurants can find support, households can find credible culinary professionals, and chefs can create more ways to earn.

“The people who understand a kitchen best should help design the system that supports it.”— KitchenCrew founding principle

Safety & standards

Trust is a process, not a badge.

KitchenCrew begins with human review, clear expectations, and direct support. The process will become more structured as the marketplace grows.

01

Identity & contact

Confirm the person behind each chef application and customer request before introducing a match.

02

Relevant experience

Review work history, kitchen experience, specialties, and role fit for the specific opportunity.

03

Credentials & references

Request food-safety certifications or professional references when they are relevant to the work.

04

Clear expectations

Confirm scope, timing, rate, location, responsibilities, and cancellation expectations before work begins.

05

Direct support

Give customers and culinary professionals a real contact for questions, changes, and concerns.

Plain-language transparency

What “personally reviewed” means today.

During the launch period, KitchenCrew personally reviews submitted information and follows up before making introductions. Relevant experience, certifications, and references may be checked depending on the opportunity.

“Personally reviewed” does not automatically mean a criminal background check has been completed. If a specific profile receives additional screening, KitchenCrew will identify that screening clearly instead of implying it.
